{count} / {counter:name}

Counters that tick up every time a command runs.

{count} bump the counter named after this command, show the new value
{count:name}         bump a named counter
{counter:name} show a counter's value without bumping it

Platforms: Twitch and Kick.

Examples

!deaths   →  {channel} has died {count} times today 💀
!win      →  Win #{count:wins}!
!loss → Loss #{count:losses}. It happens.
!score    →  Wins {counter:wins} - Losses {counter:losses}

!deaths counts deaths with zero setup. {count:name} lets several commands share one tally, and {counter:name} reads any of them back.

Managing counters

Counters live on the Chat bot page → Counters tab, where you can create them, set or reset values, and delete them. Two things make them more than a number in chat:

  • Overlay labels. A Data label widget can be bound to a counter - it updates on the overlay the instant the counter changes, count-up animation included.
  • The developer API. counters:manage keys get full CRUD plus increment, and every change fires the counter.updated webhook - so a Stream Deck button, a script, or a chat command can all move the same number. See the developer API.

Notes

  • Two {count} in one response bump once, and agree with each other.
  • Counter names are a-z 0-9 _ - and have to be typed out - a viewer’s argument can’t name (and so can’t create) a counter.
