---
title: "{count} / {counter:name}"
description: Counters that tick up every time a command runs.
---

```text
{count}              bump the counter named after this command, show the new value
{count:name}         bump a named counter
{counter:name}       show a counter's value without bumping it
```

**Platforms:** Twitch and Kick.

## Examples

```text
!deaths   →  {channel} has died {count} times today 💀
!win      →  Win #{count:wins}!
!loss     →  Loss #{count:losses}. It happens.
!score    →  Wins {counter:wins} - Losses {counter:losses}
```

`!deaths` counts deaths with zero setup. `{count:name}` lets several
commands share one tally, and `{counter:name}` reads any of them back.

## Managing counters

Counters live on the **Chat bot page → Counters** tab, where you can
create them, set or reset values, and delete them. Two things make them
more than a number in chat:

- **Overlay labels.** A Data label widget can be bound to a counter - it
  updates on the overlay the instant the counter changes, count-up
  animation included.
- **The developer API.** `counters:manage` keys get full CRUD plus
  increment, and every change fires the `counter.updated` webhook - so a
  Stream Deck button, a script, or a chat command can all move the same
  number. See the [developer API](/api).

## Notes

- Two `{count}` in one response bump once, and agree with each other.
- Counter names are `a-z 0-9 _ -` and have to be typed out - a viewer's
  argument can't name (and so can't create) a counter.
